We want to share with you our plan to implement the ALICE response program here at Coffenberry Middle School. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. This is a school safety plan the South Umpqua School District is adopting in place of the general lockdowns that were previously rehearsed in schools. We have found that this is a more effective and successful safety procedure for our staff and students within our school; should there be an active shooter or dangerous situation on one of our campuses. ALICE teaches individuals to participate in their own survival, while leading others to safety.
Starting Wednesday, May 4, 2016, we will begin training our students to prepare and handle the threat of an active shooter on campus. During each class period, the teacher and students will practice and prepare for different scenarios in different areas on our campus. We will continue to train our staff and students in the proactive response options in drill form throughout the remainder of this school year.
We encourage you to visit the ALICE website (www.alicetraining.com) and learn about this successful and empowering safety program. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our office at any time at 541-863-3104.
