Update Concerning False Allegations at Area Schools

Douglas County / Feb. 21, 2023

Earlier today, law enforcement received false allegations of an active shooter at various Douglas County Schools. Local and state law enforcement officials have confirmed that these reports are false. Reports to law enforcement are taken seriously. Local schools work in partnership with law enforcement to ensure the safety of students, staff and community.

Out of an abundance of caution, because of the false allegations, schools in Douglas County were in lockdown this morning. Our lockdown has been lifted, and classes have resumed.

We know that this hasn’t been easy on our students, staff and community. Your child will likely need an extra hug or two today. Please take time to speak with your child. If you feel that you or your loved one needs support, below are some resources.

Mental health and crisis assistance is available through Adapt Integrated Health Care (http://www.adaptoregon.org/…/mental…/crisis-services

) by calling 541-440-3532.

Crisis counselors are also available 24/7 by calling 988.

Our school counselors are also available if your child needs extra support.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office asks that the public not call 911 for updates on students or schools. They need to keep those phone lines open for emergencies. We will keep you informed via our standard communication protocols.

We have gratitude for the prompt and comprehensive response from our local law enforcement.

We are grateful and thankful that everyone is safe. We appreciate each of you!
