July 26, 2022 – South Umpqua School District is happy to announce that a grant funded construction project has begun at Coffenberry Middle School in Myrtle Creek.

The school will receive a new addition that includes a kitchen, cafeteria and band room. The expansion addresses student safety. Currently the middle grade students must walk across the street to share facilities with Myrtle Creek Elementary School.

“South Umpqua School District continues to seek ways to support improved safety and learning environments for our students. This is an exciting time for our school community as we continue moving forward,” says Superintendent Kate McLaughlin.

Construction is fully funded through federal grants and is estimated to cost approximately $4,000,000. The grants for construction of this project were approved in 2021 and estimated completion is planned for February, 2023.

HGE Architects designed the building, and Ausland Group, a development consulting, engineering, and construction company headquartered in Southern Oregon, is managing the project.
